Volleyball Falls to #11 Trinity, 3-1

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran volleyball dropped their final match of the opening weekend of SCAC play on Sunday, falling 3-1 to 11th-ranked Trinity at the Robertson Center on the campus of Southwestern University.

The Bulldogs (9-4) will return to Memorial Gymnasium on Wednesday, Sept. 27, as they take on Huston-Tillotson (1-8) for the 2023 home opener. The match is scheduled for 6 PM and will be broadcast on TLU+. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.

Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) led the Bulldogs with 15 kills while Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) was a kill shy of her third triple-double of the season, finishing with nine kills along with 24 assists and 22 digs - both team highs. Seniors Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), Emily Mixon (Woodville/Woodville), and Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) all finished with seven kills.

Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) had a team-high four blocks and Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) finished with her fourth double-double of the season with 10 digs and 17 assists.

The Bulldogs rode their momentum from Saturday into the first set against the Tigers - taking the first set 25-22. Respondek led the Bulldogs in the opening set with five kills.

The Tigers controlled much of the second set - winning the second set 25-15.

Texas Lutheran battled throughout a third set that saw nine ties and five lead changes but could never quite overcome the Tigers, falling 25-19.

The fourth and final set was close throughout with the Bulldogs coming as close as 22-21 before the Tigers put it away.
