GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran volleyball team completed the SCAC Saturday sweep with a sweep of Schreiner, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20 at the Robertson Center on the campus of Southwestern University in Georgetown. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 9-3 on the year and 2-0 in the SCAC.
Emily Mixon (Woodville/Woodville) led Texas Lutheran with 12 kills while Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) had nine kills.
Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) dished out 20 assists and added six kills, two aces, and a team-high 17 digs. Respondek has had at least a double-double in 11 of the Bulldogs 12 matches so far this season.
Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) and Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) had two blocks each to lead TLU. Moehrig would add seven kills and six digs.
Richelle Guerra (Brownsville/Rivera Early College) finished with a career-high 15 digs and two aces and a kill.
The two teams went back-and-forth throughout the first set with three ties and three lead changes in the set. The Bulldogs managed a small lead through the back end of the set - closing with a 25-21 opening set win. Emily Mixon had five kills in the first set.
Texas Lutheran would lead the final two sets wire-to-wire. TLU would jump out to a 9-1 lead to open the second set and never look back, taking the second set, 25-22. Kallus and Respondek would tally four kills each.
The Bulldogs cruised yet again in the final set to complete the sweep.
The Bulldogs will conclude the opening SCAC Divisional weekend on Sunday with a 12:15 PM matchup with No. 11 Trinity. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
