Volleyball Falls to #24 La Verne, 3-1

THOUSAND OAKS, CA -- Texas Lutheran volleyball dropped their final match of the 2023 Cal Lu Fornia Invitational to 24th-ranked La Verne, 3-1, Saturday night on the campus of Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks, California.

Texas Lutheran (7-3) concludes tournament play 7-3 as they turn their attention to SCAC play, opening conference action on Saturday, Sept. 23, against Colorado College and Schreiner at 11 AM and 6 PM on the campus of Southwestern University. Shavonne Respondek led the Bulldogs with eight kills as well as team-highs in digs (21) and assists (13) - narrowly missing her second triple-double of the weekend but securing her seventh double-double of the season. Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) and Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) had six kills each. Powell would add five blocks.

The Leopards jumped on the Bulldogs early - taking the first set 25-13.

Texas Lutheran responded in the second set, taking down the ranked squad 25-22, behind four kills and a block from Moehrig and a three block set from Powell.

Texas Lutheran battled throughout the third set but could never quite overcome the Leopards before falling 25-21.

The Leopards were able to put the Bulldogs away in the fourth set, 25-17.
