Bulldogs Sweep Chapman

THOUSAND OAKS, CA -- Texas Lutheran volleyball picked up its third win of the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational, sweeping Chapman University, 27-25, 25-17, 26-24, Saturday in Thousand Oaks, California. The win secures a winning record in an extremely difficult tournament - filled with West Region teams.

Victoria Powell (Richmond/Fulshear) led the Bulldogs with nine kills and a block, while Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) also added with nine kills, two aces, and a block. Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) started and had eight kills and seven digs.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) dished out 23 assists and added 15 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) had a team-high 29 digs, three assists, and three aces. Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) had four aces, six digs, and five kills.

Texas Lutheran took a 1-0 lead in the match, winning the opening set 27-25, with Kallus having five kills in the opening set and Moehrig adding four. The set was tight throughout including a 24-all tie before Texas Lutheran was able to pull it out.

The Bulldogs were able to breathe a little easier in the second set, downing the Panthers 25-17 to take a 2-0 lead. Five different players recorded a kill in the set as the Bulldogs closed the set on a 13-5 run.

The third set mirrored the first set as the two teams battled in a back-and-forth final set. It was a total team effort in the third set as seven Bulldogs recorded a kill led by three from Victoria Powell.
