TLU Volleyball Takes Down Chicago, 3-1, in NCAA Tournament Rematch

THOUSAND OAKS, CA -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball took down Chicago in four sets 18-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-13, in a rematch of the opening round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament Friday afternoon in their opening match of the 2023 Cal Lu Fornia Invitational.

The Bulldogs (5-20 will face host Cal Lutheran Friday night at 9 PM CST/7 PM PDT. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.

Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) led Texas Lutheran with 13 kills, hitting an impressive .591 in the match along with four digs. Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) finished with 12 kills and seven digs. Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) finished with double-digit kills for the fifth consecutive match with 10 kills, one ace, one assist, and two blocks.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) matched the team-high with two blocks along with a team-high 24 assists and 19 digs for her fifth double-double in seven matches.

Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) finished with a team-high 21 digs while Ridley Kelly (Missouri City/Elkins) finished with 12 digs. Coldewey would also dish out a season-high 13 assists for her first double-double of the season.

UChicago took the first set 25-18 after putting an early 5-1 gap between themselves and the Bulldogs.

Texas Lutheran bounced back in a big way in the second set, cruising to a 25-15 win to even the match up 1-1. The Bulldogs used an 11-4 mid-set run to pull away from the Maroons. Emily Mixon (Woodville/Woodville) led TLU with four kills in the set.

The Bulldogs had to fight in the third set to pull out a 25-23 set victory. After a 10-10 tie midway through the set, the Bulldogs were able to out score the Maroons 15-13 led by a four kill effort from Brylie Nedd.

The Bulldogs cruised yet again to put the match away in the fourth set, 25-13, as Ryann Ely (Montgomery/Concordia Lutheran) stepped up for a five kill final set to help put the match away.
