Bulldogs Dissipate Tornados, 3-0

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran volleyball team (4-1) swept the Concordia Tornados (0-6), 25-21, 25-12, 25-19, at the Robertson Center on the campus of Southwestern University in their second of three games in the Southwestern Fall Invitational.

Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) hit in double figures for the third straight match with a team-high 10 kills on the night. Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) and Emily Mixon (Woodville/Woodville) both finished with seven kills while Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) added six. Texas Lutheran hit a season-high .258 on the night.

The Bulldogs held Concordia to a .162 hitting percentage.

The Bulldogs combined for 10 aces over the course of the three-set match led by three each from Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) and Ridley Kelly (Missouri City/Elkins). Brylie Nedd also added two aces while Keriann Kallus and Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville) both contributed one.

Respondek recorded her fourth straight double-double with team-highs of 20 digs and 18 assists.

The first set was a battle with five ties and two lead changes before Texas Lutheran would rally from an 18-15 deficit to take the set 25-21. The Bulldogs would tally 16 kills and four aces in the set - including an ace for Respondek for set point.

Texas Lutheran took a commanding lead from the start in the second set as they jumped out to an 8-2 lead. TLU would quickly put it out of reach, taking the set 25-12.

The final set saw all of the TLU hitters contribute offensively led by a dominant five-kill set from Keriann Kallus as the Bulldogs put the Tornados away for the sweep.

Texas Lutheran will conclude the Southwestern Fall Invitational with a Saturday afternoon matchup with Aurora University, a 2022 NCAA Tournament qualifier, at 12:45 PM at the Robertson Center. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
