Bulldogs Fall to No. 4 Trinity, 3-1, in Regular Season Finale

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran closed out the regular season portion of its schedule on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 20-25, 17-25, 25-22, 19-25 decision to No. 4 Trinity at Memorial Gymnasium.

Texas Lutheran battled throughout the afternoon as the match saw 25 tie scores and 10 lead changes. The Tigers out hit Texas Lutheran, .187 to .096, and held a 12.0 to 7.0 advantage in blocks.

Junior outside hitter Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) had a team-high 10 kills to go along with six digs and a block. Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) added nine kills. Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) chipped in eight kills, four digs, and three blocks.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) had a tallied 18 assists, while Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) put up 16. Libero Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) collected a team-best 25 digs in addition to three assists and three aces. Junior middle blocker Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) paced the team with four blocks.

Texas Lutheran carried a 19-15 lead in the opening set before ultimately dropping the opening set to the Tigers, 25-20.

The Bulldogs started the second set with a 10-10 tie before Trinity pulled away to win, 25-17.

Texas Lutheran responded with a 25-22 third set win to avoid the sweep on their home floor led by four kills from Nedd and four blocks from the Bulldogs block.

The fourth set was back-and-forth with seven ties throughout but Texas Lutheran couldn't overcome the ranked Tigers as they secured the win with a 19-25 fourth set win over the Bulldogs to stay perfect in SCAC play.

Texas Lutheran begins play in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Friday, Nov. 4, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. TLU, the No. 4 seed, will face the No. 5 seed Austin College at 11:30 AM CST on the campus of Colorado College. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
