Morris Sets Digs Record as Volleyball Sweeps Schreiner

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran swept its 13th match of the season, beating Schreiner emphatically in straight sets Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs hit .205 in the match while holding the Mountaineers to a .081 hitting percentage.

Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) had an outstanding match and cemented herself in the Texas Lutheran Volleyball record book in the process. Morris had 23 digs and 10 assists for her first double-double of the season to go along with two service aces. With her 23 digs, Morris is now the program record holder with 2,414 digs in her career - surpassing Megan Lee's (2011-14) 2,409 digs. Morris moves into fifth place in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference history - surpassing Rhodes College's Kayla McCrury (2007-10, 2,417 digs).

Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) led the Bulldogs with 8 kills, while Emily Mixon (Woodville/Woodville) and Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) finished with seven kills each. Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood) led the team with five blocks and added six kills. 

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) had her 18th double-double of the season with 14 assists and 19 digs. Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) also added a double-double with 14 digs and 10 assists.

Texas Lutheran used a 10-0 run in the first set to run away with a 25-16 win. Four different Bulldogs finished with three kills in the opening set.

Texas Lutheran took a 2-0 lead with a 25-19 win in the second set behind four kills from Emily Mixon and three total blocks from the TLU front line. TLU would hold Schreiner to a .087 hitting percentage in the set.

The third set was dominant from the Bulldogs, hitting .293 and cruising to a 25-15 win to complete the sweep.
