Volleyball Knocks Off Austin College, 3-1

SHERMAN, Texas -- Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) had 15 kills and a block to lead the Texas Lutheran volleyball team to a 28-26, 17-25, 25-23, 25-12 victory Friday afternoon against Austin College in Sherman, Texas.

Texas Lutheran hit .218 as a team with 62 kills, three aces, and five blocks to move to 20-5 and 8-2 in the SCAC. The 20-win mark matches Texas Lutheran's highest win total since joining the SCAC in 2013 - reaching the mark in 2014 and 2019.

Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood) recorded 12 kills and three blocks. Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) finished with 10 kills and four digs and setter Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) had a match-high 29 assists and a team-high two aces in addition to 15 digs and three kills. Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) recorded a match-high 28 digs. Celie Contreras (San Marcos/San Marcos) matched her career-high with 18 digs. Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) finished one assist shy of her season-high - finishing the match with 24 assists and seven digs.

Texas Lutheran held the 'Roos to a .135 hitting percentage on their home floor.

Five kills from Maddy Schultz and four kills each from Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) and Peyton Sulak led the way for the Bulldogs in an opening set that saw Texas Lutheran rally from a 14-21 deficit to take the opener, 28-26.

Austin College fought back to tie the match 1-1, taking the second set, 25-17.

Texas Lutheran won a close third set, 25-23 to take a 2-1 lead before putting the match away with a 25-12 fourth set win.

Texas Lutheran returns to the floor at 3:30 PM to face the University of Dallas Crusaders in their second match of Friday's SCAC Divisional matches. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
