Texas Lutheran Falls to No. 2 Trinity

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- Texas Lutheran dropped its first match in three weeks as their nine match win streak came to an end Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 2 Trinity (TX), 20-25, 16-25, 23-25 at Reid Arena on the campus of Colorado College.

Texas Lutheran (19-5, 7-2 SCAC) was out hit by Trinity (16-2, 8-0 SCAC) .273 to .192. Trinity held a 51-49 advantage in digs, and out blocked the Bulldogs, a team that has thrived off the block as of late, 9.0 to 4.0.

Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) led Texas Lutheran with nine kills and a block. Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) registered her 13th double-double of the season with 19 assists and 11 digs. Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) dished out 17 assists.

Libero Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) finished with 14 digs and two service aces - each team-highs.

Texas Lutheran led 14-13 in the opening set but Trinity fought back and won the opening set before cruising to a 16-25 second set victory.

Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) totaled eight kills and four digs. Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) and Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) both finished with seven kills and a block.

The two teams would play a competitive third set before the Tigers would finish the sweep with a third set 23-25 win.

Texas Lutheran travels to Sherman, Texas, next week as they play in the Austin College SCAC Divisional Friday and Saturday. The Bulldogs open the divisional with matches against Austin College and University of Dallas on Friday, Oct. 14, with first serve scheduled for 11 AM & 3:30 PM.
