TLU Volleyball Sweeps Huston-Tillotson for Seventh Straight Victory

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran volleyball team swept Huston-Tillotson, 25-10, 25-13, 25-17, in a front of a crowd that featured the fiery support of Koennecke Elementary students in attendance for "Koennecke Kids Night," Tuesday night at Memorial Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs (17-4, 5-1 SCAC) gave the kids a show with a season-high .320 hitting percentage en route to their ninth sweep of the season.

Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) led the way with 11 kills & .429 hitting percentage, while adding a team-high three blocks and a dig. Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood) finished with 8 kills and .667 hitting percentage, while adding two blocks. Weisinger currently ranks second in the SCAC with 61 total blocks on the season. Weisinger currently is seventh nationally in all of Division-III and leads the SCAC in block assists (53).

Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) finished with six kills, four digs, and a block. Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) led Texas Lutheran with two service aces as Texas Lutheran's dominance at the service line continues. Texas Lutheran currently leads the SCAC in service aces with 151 - placing three players in the top three individually: Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) (1st, 33 aces), Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) (2nd, 32 aces), and Sulak (tied-3rd, 30 aces).

Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) had another strong back-row performance, with 13 digs and four assists. She is now averaging 5.22 digs per set, the second best total in the SCAC, while sitting third nationally with 402 total digs.

Shavonne Respondek finished with a team-high 15 assists and six digs.

The Bulldogs cruised to a 25-10 win in the first set, hitting .303 and getting three kills and a block from Schultz.

It was more of the same in the second set, with Texas Lutheran taking a 2-0 lead after a 25-12 win. Schultz led the Bulldogs with five more kills and two blocks. Moehrig and Weisinger would have four kills a piece in the second set with Weisinger adding two blocks. As a team, Texas Lutheran hit .519 in the second set.

Texas Lutheran clinched the sweep and their wire-to-wire win with a 25-17 third set win. Texas Lutheran would never trail for the duration of the match. Schultz & Weisinger led TLU in the final set with three kills each before Paige Day (San Antonio/Reagan) put the match away with a service ace.

The Bulldogs will head on the road to return to SCAC Conference play as they travel to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to face Schreiner and SCAC Divisional host, Colorado College, on Friday. The Bulldogs are slated to face Schreiner at 12 PM CST and Colorado College at 4:30 PM CST. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
