TLU Volleyball Sweeps Howard Payne

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran volleyball team swept Howard Payne, 25-21, 25-20, 25-15, Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium.

Freshman Annie Johnson (Burleson/Centennial) had an outstanding match offensively, leading Texas Lutheran with a career-high nine kills on 19 attempts for a .368 hitting percentage. She also added three digs and a service ace.

Texas Lutheran finished the match with six service aces - led by three aces from Faith Coldewey (Floresville/Floresville).

Cameren Davis (Wimberley/Wimberley), Keriann Kallus (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), and Kara Clark (San Antonio/Churchill) each finished with five kills. Kara Clark added a block while Keriann Kallus added one of the Bulldogs' six service aces.

Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) and Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) dished out 11 assists each. Freshman Ridley Kelly (Missouri City/Elkins) finished with a career-high 15 digs to lead the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs trailed 19-21 in the opening set before rallying with a 6-0 run to close the set with a 25-21 first set victory. Johnson and Kallus each had three kills in the set to lead the Bulldogs.

The second set was tied 16-16 before the Bulldogs grabbed the lead and never looked back - winning the set, 25-20, to go up 2-0.

Texas Lutheran cruised to a 25-15 win in the third set to clinch the sweep, hitting .310 in the final set and getting three kills each from Johnson, Clark, and Baylie Baccinelli (Santa Fe/Santa Fe). Faith Coldewey added two of her six aces in the final set.
