Bulldogs Beat Dallas, 3-1

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) had 14 kills and a block to lead the Texas Lutheran volleyball team to a 25-10, 23-25, 25-16, 25-16 victory against University of Dallas in their first of three SCAC matches at the Robertson Center on the campus of Southwestern University this weekend.

Texas Lutheran hit .307 as a team with 53 kills, nine aces, and nine blocks to move to 16-4 and 3-1 in the SCAC. Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) recorded nine kills, three blocks and two digs. Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendsood) hit .600 with six kills and four blocks and setter Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) had a team-high and season-high 30 assists and a team-high four aces in addition to 10 digs and four kills. Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) recorded a match-high 24 digs. With the 24 digs, Morris moves into sole possession of third place on the Texas Lutheran all-time digs list with her career mark now at 2,128 digs - surpassing Jaci Chambers (2016-19, 2,107 digs) in the record book.

Texas Lutheran held Dallas to a .109 hitting percentage.

Three kills each from Madison Weisinger and Emily Mixon (Woodville/Woodville) led the Bulldogs in an opening set that saw Texas Lutheran start on a 6-0 run with Shavonne Respondek in-service as they would lead wire-to-wire - cruising to a 25-10 first set victory.

The second set was much more competitive as the Crusaders and Bulldogs had seven ties and five lead changes before the Crusaders inevitably stole a 23-25 second set victory.

Texas Lutheran would return to form in the third set as the Crusaders were able to force a tie score twice but the Bulldogs never relinquished the lead. Three kills each from Tanyse Moehrig and Maddy Schultz along with three aces between Shavonne Respondek and Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) and two blocks from Madison Weisinger the Bulldogs took the third set,, 25-16.

Texas Lutheran avoided a fifth set by putting away the Crusaders 25-16 for a fourth set victory. Texas Lutheran closed the match on a 13-4 run. powered by two aces from Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) as well as a set-high four kills by Maddy Schultz.
