Volleyball Takes Down UMHB, 3-1

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran volleyball took down Mary Hardin-Baylor, 3-1, 25-21, 25-23, 26-28, 25-16, in the second match of their mid-week home stand at Memorial Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs improve to 12-4 (2-1 SCAC) on the season - the program's best start since 2015's 12-4 start.

Texas Lutheran was led by 16 kills from Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley), who added seven digs and a block. Brylie Nedd finished with 11 kills, seven digs, and a block. Madison Weisinger (Friendswood/Friendswood) and Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) each finished with 10 kills. Weisinger would add five blocks and four digs.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) dished out 24 assists and registered 11 digs for her 10th double-double of the season. Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair) tallied 20 assists and added two service aces. Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) totaled a team-high three service aces.

Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) led the Bulldogs with 25 digs and added four assists and an ace. Morris is now four digs away from surpassing Jaci Chambers (2016-19, 2,107 digs) to become third all-time in career digs in Texas Lutheran history.

Four kills from Brylie Nedd led the way as she helped lead the Bulldogs to a 25-21 first set victory.

UMHB kept it close throughout the second set as the set featured eight ties and six lead changes but four kills each from Tanyse Moehrig and Maddy Schultz in addition to four blocks from the Bulldogs block proved to be too much as the Bulldogs clinched the second set with an opportunity to sweep within reach.

The third set was just as highly contested, with 11 ties and six lead changes, UMHB was able to avoid the sweep with a 26-28 third set win.

Texas Lutheran put the match away in emphatic fashion - leading the set wire-to-wire - cruising to a 25-16 fourth set win. Moehrig led the Bulldogs in the final set with five kills while Peyton Sulak had two pivotal aces down the stretch.
