TLU Volleyball sweeps Neumann University

HOUSTON, Texas -- Texas Lutheran volleyball opened the UST Labor Day Invitational that will see the Bulldogs play four matches in two days, with an emphatic 3-0 win over Neumann University, 25-12, 25-11, 25-22 at the Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center on the campus of University of St. Thomas.

Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) led the Bulldogs with eight kills, while hitting .444 in the match and adding six digs. Moehrig was a force throughout the match including a four kill second set.

Brylie Nedd (Sealy/Sealy) finished with five kills and matched Moehrig with a .444 hitting percentage. Maddy Schultz (Richmond/Needville) also had five kills.

Shavonne Respondek (San Antonio/Madison) dished out 15 assists and added 10 digs for her second double-double of the season.

Lexi Morris (Victoria/Victoria West) finished with 17 digs, four assists, and a service ace.

Texas Lutheran took the first set after the teams went back-and-forth in the beginning before a 7-0 run helped Texas Lutheran jump out to a 23-11 lead and eventually put the Knights away 25-12.

Texas Lutheran cruised through the second set, taking the second set, 25-11, led by four kills from Tanyse Moehrig and two service aces from Julia Chew (Cypress/Cy-Fair).

The Bulldogs had to battle in the third and final set, trailing 14-12 early, but Texas Lutheran chipped away - rallying to win the set 25-22. Nedd, Schultz, and Peyton Sulak (Needville/Needville) were key in the final set finishes with three kills each and Moehrig securing the match with the final point.
