Bulldogs Open Outdoor Season at Trinity Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Texas Lutheran track and field opened its outdoor season at the Trinity Invitational in San Antonio this weekend in San Antonio.

On Friday, Julissa Rodriguez (Deer Park/Deer Park) finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.95m (147' 6"). The mark ranks second in all of Division-III after a weekend that saw a number of schools open their outdoor seasons across the country.

Sophomore Katelyn Brown finished fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.52m (4' 11.75"), the mark would rank second amongst Division-III competitors and fifth nationally.

On Saturday, Ashlynn Recknagel (La Vernia/La Vernia) finished in a tie for fourth - tying for first amongst Division-III competitors - in the pole vault with a mark of 3.20m (10'6"). Recknagel currently ranks third in NCAA Division-III.

Taylor Norrell (Lake Jackson/Brazosport), who enjoyed a record breaking indoor season, opened her outdoor season with a ninth place finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.82 seconds which placed her second amongst Division-III runners.

The Texas Lutheran 4x400m relay team comprised of Lily Dawson (Lott/Rosebud-Lott), Natalie Garcia (McAllen/McAllen), Katie Kostelnik (Hallettsville/Sacred Heart Catholic), and Kamilah Tanner (Killeen/Robert M. Shoemaker) finished fifth, third amongst Division-III teams, with a time of 4:07.43. The 4:07.43 time ranks fifth in all of Division-III after the weekend.

Coach McCown's Comments: "This meet was a great opener for our outdoor season. Congratulations to Coach Ratliff as her distance crew is breaking records every week. It was great to see a handful of personal bests in the field events and running events. I am excited to see what all this team will accomplish this season. Go Dogs!"
