Norrell Breaks Her Own Record as TLU Competes at LSU Twilight
BATON ROUGE, LA -- The Texas Lutheran women's track and field team competed in the LSU Twilight Friday at Carl Maddox Field House at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. TLU would be the lone Division-III team in the meet.
For the third week in a row, junior Taylor Norrell (Lake Jackson/Brazosport) stole the show by breaking yet another record - this time one of her own - breaking her own 60m hurdle record set just last week with a new record time of 9.22 seconds to finish in 11th place.
Freshman Mackenzie Combs (New Braunfels/Canyon) finished seventh in the 3000m run with a time of 11:37.74.
The Texas Lutheran 4x400m relay team comprised of Ja'Keia Williams (La Grange/La Grange), Natalie Garcia (McAllen/McAllen), Katie Kostelnik (Hallettsville/Sacred Heart Catholic), and Kamilah Tanner (Killeen/Robert M. Shoemaker) finished third with a season best time of 4:14.91.
In throws, Julissa Rodriguez (Deer Park/Deer Park) finished seventh in the shot put with a mark of 11.82m (38'9.5") and eighth in the weight throw with a mark of 14m (14'11.25").

Coach McCown's Comments: "Great competition can carry you to great performances if you let them. As a team we did just that. We had 10 personal bests and 2 school records today. Congratulations to Wes Holub on his 2nd school record of the indoor season. He ran his race tactically well and it paid off for him. Congratulations to Taylor Norell on improving her time and resetting the school record again. Also, Ezra improved his National ranking to number 22 and finished second overall. We are definitely improving every week and this was a great meet to help better prepare us for even better performances this outdoor season. Go Dogs!"
Texas Lutheran will take the next week off before opening their outdoor season at the Trinity Invitational in San Antonio on March 1-2 on the campus of Trinity University.
