TLU, Schreiner Play to 1-1 Draw

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran and Schreiner played to a 1-1 tie Friday night at Gustafson Field in the Bulldogs first home conference match of 2023. The Bulldogs scored the first goal in the 37th minute before the Mountaineers would net the equalizer in the 84th minute.

With the tie, the Bulldogs match the program record set by the 1994, 2016, and 2018 teams of four ties in a season.

The Bulldogs (6-3-4, 2-0-1) got on the board first with an 37th minute goal from last week's SCAC Offensive Player of the Week, Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) via an assist from junior Maddie Shaw (Cibolo/Clemens), the first of her career.

TLU would outshoot the Mountaineers 8-1 in the first half but only carry the 1-0 lead into the break.

The Bulldogs looked to be on their way to a third consecutive clean sheet to open SCAC play before losing their lead to an 84th minute equalizer.

TLU attempted to pull out the win with a few opportunities late but were unable to score before time expired.

The Bulldogs totaled 18 shots in the game while holding Schreiner to seven. Charleigh Phipps (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) made three saves for TLU in the second half. TLU also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Bulldogs continue their homestand on Sunday, Oct. 15, hosting the Trinity Tigers for a rematch following a loss to the Tigers earlier this season in non-conference action. The game will kick off at 12 PM and can be streamed on TLU's YouTube Channel, TLU+. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
