TLU WSOC Battles to 2-2 Draw Against Chapman

ORANGE, CA -- In the final match of their west coast road trip, the Texas Lutheran women's soccer team (2-0-2) battled to a 2-2 draw against the Chapman Panthers (1-0-2) Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field on the campus of Chapman University. With the draw, TLU remains undefeated and continues their best start since 2015.

Texas Lutheran got on the board early, scoring the contest's first goal in the 15th minute. The shot came from sophomore Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) via an assist from Ana Parra (San Antonio/Brennan) and Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren). Parra continues to climb the TLU all-time assists ladder early in her career with her 12th career assist, she ties former teammate Samantha Martinez and Megan Willis for eighth all-time, trailing Katie Buehler by one assist for the seventh spot. Texas Lutheran entered halftime up 1-0, keeping a Panthers squad that out shot the Bulldogs 6-3 in the first half at bay.

Alyssa Simien, last week's SCAC Offensive Player of the Week, doubled the Bulldogs lead in the 46th minute via penalty kick for her fourth goal of the 2023 season.

The Panthers would keep the pressure on and finally break through in the second half - rallying for two goals to tie the game in the 66th minute.

The teams combined for 17 shots in the second half but the game would end in a 2-2 draw.

Texas Lutheran returns home for a non-conference matchup with Howard Payne (3-1-0) on Friday, September 15. The game will kick off at 7 PM and can be streamed on TLU's YouTube Channel, TLU+. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
