TLU, East Texas Baptist Tie 1-1

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran and East Texas Baptist played to a 1-1 tie Sunday afternoon at Gustafson Field in the 2023 home opener. The Tigers scored the first goal in the eighth minute before the Bulldogs would respond in the 48th minute.

The Tigers (0-0-2) got on the board first with an eighth minute goal. Despite being held scoreless in the opening half, the Bulldogs (1-0-1) out shot the Tigers 7-3 in the half. The Bulldogs nearly tied it up via a corner kick from Callie Brame (San Antonio/Churchill) towards the end of the half but a foul was called on the Bulldogs to negate the goal.

The Tigers lead would lose their lead in the opening moments of the second half as Ana Parra (San Antonio/Brennan) netted the equalizer in the 48th minute via an assist from Callie Brame.

TLU attempted to pull out the win with a few opportunities late but were unable to score before time expired.

The Bulldogs totaled 10 shots in the game while holding ETBU to six. Charleigh Phipps (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) made the lone save for TLU in the second half. TLU also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Texas Lutheran will travel to California for a two-game road trip next weekend starting with a first-time ever matchup with the Caltech Beavers on Friday, September 8, at 6:30 CST/4:30 PDT. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
