Three Second Half Goals Leads TLU Past Schreiner, 4-2

KERRVILLE, Texas -- Behind three second-half goals, the Texas Lutheran women's soccer team came from behind to defeat Schreiner, 4-2, Friday afternoon at Mountaineer Soccer Field in Kerrville.

The Bulldogs fell behind, 1-0, behind a 15th-minute Mountaineers goal but would tie it up from a Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) goal. The score would remain tied, 1-1, into halftime.

Schreiner would break the tie in the 52nd-minute taking a 2-1 lead. The Bulldogs would battle back to score three goals in the final 30 minutes of play to get the victory over the Mountaineers.

After starting the second half on the bench the 2022 SCAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year, Alyssa Simien, (San Antonio/Warren) picked up where she left off in 2022, tying the game at 2-all with her first goal of the 2023 season. Simien would go back-to-back scoring the game-winner off of a free kick in the 83rd-minute. The game-winner is the seventh in her young TLU career - moving her into fifth all-time in program history. The brace was the fifth of her Bulldogs career.

St. Mary's transfer Callie Brame (San Antonio/Churchill) would net an insurance goal in the 87th-minute via an assist from Ana Parra (San Antonio/Brennan) to put the game out of reach, her first career goal as a Bulldog in her first game as a Bulldog. After leading the Bulldogs and finishing second in the SCAC with nine assists last season, Parra - a sophomore from San Antonio - moved into the top ten in program history with her tenth career assist on the Brame goal.

TLU outshot Schreiner in the game 16-6 and had 12 shots on goal to the Mountaineers three. Freshman Alysa Marquez (Miami, FL/Dr. Michael Krop) made one save and picked up her first collegiate win in-goal in her collegiate debut.

Texas Lutheran (1-0-0) will now return back to Seguin for its next match as the Bulldogs are set to host the East Texas Baptist Tigers (0-0-1) at 1PM on Sunday, Sept. 3 for the 2023 home opener. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
