Bulldogs Roll to 4-1 Win Over St. Thomas on Senior Day

SEGUIN, Texas -- With four conference games remaining in the regular season, Texas Lutheran women's soccer (8-6-1, 8-2 SCAC) has matched its highest total of SCAC wins since joining the conference picking up their eighth conference win of the season as they rolled past St. Thomas (4-8-2, 3-6-1 SCAC), 4-1, Sunday afternoon.

Texas Lutheran's eight wins gives first-year head coach Kerwin Johnson the most wins for a first year head coach in program history. The eight SCAC wins matches the 2014 season for the most conference wins since joining the conference in the fall of 2013.

Prior to Sunday's match, Texas Lutheran honored its six seniors: Elena Rivera (New Braunfels/Canyon), Liliana Avila (Blanco/Blanco), Olivia Campos (Austin/Del Valle), Samantha Martinez (Schertz/Clemens), Sela Boyers (Schertz/Clemens), and Anna Bourbonnais (The Woodlands/The Woodlands) for their contributions to the TLU Women's Soccer program.

Kelly Wolfe (San Antonio/Churchill) and Elaina Barrientes (Lubbock/Coronado) put on a show in the first half with Barrientes having a hand in all three of the Bulldogs first half goals that came within a seven minute span.

Wolfe put the Bulldogs on the board first, giving TLU a 1-0 lead with her second goal of the season in the 11th minute by connecting on a header off of a corner from Barrientes. Barrientes continued the Bulldogs seven minute flurry of goals by scoring a goal of her own via an assist from Alyssa Simien (San Antonio/Warren) - her third of the season and third in five games - to extend the Bulldogs lead to 2-0 in the 15th minute. Wolfe and Barrientes would connect on another corner in the 18th minute as Wolfe scored her second goal of the match as Texas Lutheran stretched to a 3-0 lead.

St. Thomas would score their lone goal of the game in the 23rd minute as the Bulldogs blanked the Celts over the final 67 minutes.

Senior Samantha Martinez would pad the Bulldogs lead with 59th minute goal - her third goal of the season and second of the weekend - bringing the game to its final tally of 4-1. Ana Parra (San Antonio/Brennan) was credited with the assist - her team-high fifth of the season. Parra now ranks fifth in the SCAC in assists and eighth in total points (11).

St. Thomas outshot TLU 13-12, but the Bulldogs held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Elena Rivera would pick up the winning decision making one save and allowing one goal in the first half. Madison Johnson (Pflugerville/Hendrickson) would make two saves in relief in the second half.

Texas Lutheran travels to Irving, Texas, to face the University of Dallas on Friday, Oct. 21, at 5 PM as they continue SCAC play. All streaming and live stats will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
