Women's Soccer Rallies Against McMurry, Ends in Draw

SEGUIN, Texas -- In Head Coach Kerwin Johnson's first regular season game as head coach at Texas Lutheran, the Texas Lutheran women's soccer team rallied against McMurry to end things in a 1-1 draw in Thursday's season opener at Gustafson Field.

The War Hawks got on the board first with a 31st minute goal. McMurry would dictate the energy in the first half firing off six shots (four on goal) in the half.

Texas Lutheran would engage in a back-and-forth battle for the remainder of the first half before slowly shifting the momentum in the second half. The Bulldogs would take eight second half shots with six shots on target.

Still facing a 1-0 deficit in the closing minutes, freshman Klarissa Martinez (Houston/Incarnate Word Academy) netted the equalizer in the 87th minute via assists from Ana Parra (San Antonio/Brennan) and Samantha Martinez (Schertz/Clemens).

The Bulldogs ended with a 10-8 shot advantage, with senior goalkeeper Elena Rivera (New Braunfels/Canyon) recording five saves.

Texas Lutheran will travel to Brownwood, Texas, to face the Yellow Jackets of Howard Payne on Saturday at 2 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
