Texas Lutheran WBB Defeats Colorado College, 54-48

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's basketball team (13-9, 9-5 SCAC) took down Colorado College Friday night inside of Memorial Gymnasium, earning a 54-48 victory.

Texas Lutheran's patented suffocating defense showed up and showed out holding Colorado College to its second lowest point total of the season - nearly 30 points below their season average - while forcing 19 turnovers.

After surrendering the first five points of the game, Texas Lutheran would trail 12-6 after the opening period. Texas Lutheran would trail for the majority of the night - only leading for 4:35 on Friday night. Texas Lutheran was never out of the game entering halftime with a 20-20 tie following a second quarter that saw the Bulldogs outscore the Tigers 14-8 - led by six second quarter points from junior forward Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley).

The Bulldogs were held to nine points in the third quarter, but were able to claw back into the game in the fourth, regaining the lead with 36 seconds left in the game that they would never lose. The freshman duo of Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) and Brianna Wilson (Austin/Cotulla) were huge in the fourth, combining for 16 points in the quarter on 6-of-7 shooting.

The freshman duo delivered for the second game in a row combining for 21 points. Sansano finished with 13 points, three assists and matched her career-high of six rebounds. Brianna Wilson finished with eight points while Tanyse Moehrig finished with nine points. Elexis Morado (Kingsville/Santa Gertrudis Academy) matched her career-high of three assists for the second consecutive game. Senior forward Taylor Skurka (New Braunfels/Steele) had a strong night on the glass, finishing with a team-high seven rebounds.

The Texas Lutheran bench - who have played a massive role in Bulldogs wins throughout the season - outscored the Tigers bench 42-16. TLU also won the battle in the paint outscoring the Tigers 26-16 in the paint.

After the exciting finish to Friday's game, Texas Lutheran honored its two seniors: Taylor Skurka and Sydney Shaw (Lockhart/Lockhart).

Up next, Texas Lutheran, who has secured its place in the 2023 SCAC Tournament, begins its final road trip of the regular season with a trip to rival No. 4 Trinity on Friday, Feb. 17.
