TLU Gets Edged Out 75-71 by Schreiner

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's basketball team fell 75-71 Saturday evening to the Schreiner University Mountaineers at Memorial Gymnasium. After trailing through most of the game, the visitors tied the game with 3:30 remaining before outscoring the Bulldogs 11-7 down the stretch to win the game.

With their third consecutive loss, the Bulldogs are now 8-8 and 4-4 in SCAC play. They're back in action on Friday, Jan. 20, hosting the University of Dallas Crusaders at Memorial Gymnasium as the four game homestand continues. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM as the Bulldogs look to avenge an early December loss to the Crusaders. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.

Sophomore Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) played 35 minutes and scored a career-high 23 points to lead Texas Lutheran. Mulkey would connect on seven of her 11 three-point attempts, matched Kim Hagan's 2010 performance against Mary Hardin-Baylor for the most in TLU's NCAA era and one shy of matching the single-game TLU women's basketball record of eight three-pointers made held by Lisa Green and Chantel Mize. Mulkey would also add six rebounds and four assists. Kailey Lacy (Pflugerville/Hendrickson) scored a career-high 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting, including a career best six made three-point attempts. Taylor Skurka (New Braunfels/Steele) joined the high-scoring duo in double figures with 10 points. Hannah Gallegos (San Antonio/Harlan) finished with a career-high six assists.

Texas Lutheran led for just over 34 minutes of the game, leading by as many as 21 points. Schreiner responded by shooting 66.7% from the field in the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 57-34 behind 28 second half points from Demauria Miles. Texas Lutheran would lead by 19 at the break, but would be outscored 28-16 in the third quarter as the Mountaineers shot nearly 70% from the field in the quarter.

TLU led by five with 4:33 to play before a Demauria Miles three cut the lead to two. The Mountaineers would complete their comeback - taking a 66-64 lead with 2:16 left to play. The two teams would go back and forth before a Miles three proved to be the dagger with 14 seconds remaining.
