Texas Lutheran Falls to Colorado College, 61-58

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- Texas Lutheran took Colorado College to the wire in a rematch from last season's SCAC Tournament quarterfinals and led for a majority of Sunday afternoon's contest but the Tigers came from behind to win 61-58.

Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) posted her sixth straight double-digit effort and second 20-point scoring effort in three games, finishing with 20 points and four rebounds. Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) joined Mulkey in double-figures with 12 points and a team-high three assists.

Mulkey led the Bulldogs with nine points in the first half while Kailey Lacy (Pflugerville/Hendrickson) added six points in the first quarter on two early threes. Texas Lutheran led by as many as 16 points in the first half -holding the Tigers to 15 points in the first half - taking a 31-15 lead into the break. The 15 points match the lowest opposing scoring half in the Troy Patterson era - matching a Jan. 2022 effort that saw the Bulldogs hold the Southwestern Pirates to 15 points in the second half.

Texas Lutheran struggled as Colorado College went on a 22-8 run over the course of the third quarter. The Bulldogs would connect on three of 14 shot attempts in the quarter but would maintain a 41-37 lead entering the final period.

Mulkey and Sansano controlled the fourth quarter combining for 16 points on 64-percent shooting (7-11 FG). Unfortunately, the Tigers proved to be too much, overtaking the Bulldogs with 7:42 remaining in the game and never relinquishing the lead. TLU had a chance to tie late, but multiple game-tying efforts rimmed out.

Up next, Texas Lutheran begins a four game home stand and will look to bounce back against rival No. 2/3 Trinity (TX). The rivals will tip at 5:30 PM on Friday, Jan. 13. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
