Bulldogs Sink Southwestern, 68-42

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran women's basketball team bounced back from their Concordia loss last Friday with a 68-42 win over Southwestern on Tuesday. Texas Lutheran has won four of the last five matchups against Southwestern and picked up their fourth win in their last five games on Tuesday.

Texas Lutheran's defense had a huge impact on Tuesday's game as Texas Lutheran had a season-high 17 steals, forcing 24 Southwestern turnovers on the night. Kailee Mulkey (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) led the Bulldogs with 14 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) joined her in double-figures with 11 points. Sarahi Jones (Los Fresnos/Los Fresnos) led the Bulldog bench with 10 points. Sydney Shaw (Lockhart/Lockhart) tallied a season-high 12 rebounds and three steals in addition to three points.

Texas Lutheran would start the game on a 10-3 run and would hold an 18-11 lead after the first quarter led by seven points by Mulkey.

Hannah Gallegos (San Antonio/Harlan) scored the Bulldogs first five points out of the break and eight of the first 10 as the Bulldogs scored 12 unanswered to start the second quarter. Texas Lutheran would carry its largest lead of the half, 23 points, into halftime as the Bulldogs led 44-21. TLU's massive 26-10 quarter was aided by seven forced turnovers.

Texas Lutheran struggled out of the break - only managing eight points in the third quarter on 20 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent shooting at the free throw line. Southwestern would shrink their deficit by seven points but would still have a massive hill to climb to mount a fourth quarter comeback.

The Bulldogs lead proved insurmountable as the Bulldogs responded by holding the Pirates to six points in the fourth - forcing eight turnovers in the process.
