Bio

Coach Miller is entering his second year at TLU and his 44th year in the coaching profession.

He holds BS (Physical Education) and MS (Kinesiology-Sport Management) degrees from Texas A&M University. In addition, Coach Miller also has an MA degree in Education (Counseling) from Heidelberg University, in Tiffin, Ohio. He has coached baseball and softball at every level. His career path in baseball includes stops in pro ball as a coach and scout, as well as college, high school, and amateur ball, as both a head coach and an assistant. On the fastpitch side, he has worked as an assistant at the collegiate level and as a head high school coach. His overall combined record as a head coach of baseball and softball is 1,314-546 (.706).

He has coached numerous players who have gone on to success at both the college and professional levels in baseball, including former big leaguers, Woody Williams, Lyle Mouton, Sean Bergman, Scott Livingstone, Todd Haney, Stefan Crichton, and Louis Head. He has also managed a number of current college coaches. That list includes, Rich Wieligman, the hitting coach for Kansas University softball, Shanon Hays the Head Softball Coach at Grand Canyon State University, Tim Tadlock and Tom Arrington who are the head baseball coaches at Texas Tech and San Jacinto JC, respectively, and Johnny Cardenas, the head baseball coach at Stephen F. Austin State University. In addition, Nick Hostetler, who is a Special Assistant to the GM for the Chicago White Sox, also played for Coach Miller.

On the softball side, Coach Miller has tutored numerous players who were standouts at the college level. Kristen Rumley (Dartmouth – two-time Ivy League Player of the Year), KK Thumann (Baylor all-American), Courtney Buchman (all-conference and UTSA team captain), Amy Pelton (Sam Houston State team captain), Rachel Moore (team captain and all-conference at Angelo State), Kayla Ober (Texas A&M – two-time Academic all-American), and Kelli Martinez (four-year starter and all-conference performer at Louisiana-Lafayette) were just a few of the standouts who played for Coach Miller at tradition-rich Cinco Ranch HS in Katy, Texas.

A native of Houston, where he graduated from Memorial HS, Coach Miller now resides in San Antonio. His oldest daughter, Ashley recently moved to Seoul, South Korea where she will teach English at the college level. She and her fiancé, Jake, are getting married this fall. Coach’s youngest daughter, Lauren, and her husband, Heath, along with their daughter, Charlie Jane, live in Sulphur Springs. Lauren and Heath are both educators.
