Texas Lutheran Falls to Trinity, 1-0, in SCAC Tournament Opener

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The fifth-seeded and 2023 SCAC Tournament host Trinity Tigers upset the No. 1 seed Texas Lutheran Bulldogs with a 1-0 victory at the 2023 SCAC Tournament at Trinity Softball Field in San Antonio, Texas.

It marks the Bulldogs first loss in the SCAC tournament since 2016.

It was a pitchers' duel between Bulldogs ace and 2023 SCAC Pitcher of the Year Ashlyn Strother (Seabrook/Clear Falls) and Tigers freshman right-hander Jordan Arce.

The game was decided on a fourth inning RBI double that scored a pinch-running Arce with one out in the top of the fourth.

Strother allowed two hits and three walks and had three strikeouts on 92 pitches. Strother kept the Tigers hitless through 3.1 innings and after the fourth inning double did not allow another hit until the sixth inning, another double to left field.

TLU (35-5) stranded seven bases runners and the Tigers (15-26) only four.

The top-seeded Bulldogs will now have to run the gauntlet of the Loser's Bracket starting with a 10 AM matchup with sixth-seeded Schreiner on Saturday, May 6. The winner of that game will play in Game 8 of the tournament at 5:30 PM. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
