TLU Shuts Out Austin College, 8-0, to Take Game One

SHERMAN, Texas -- No. 4 Texas Lutheran made quick work of Austin College in game one of their conference series on Friday, winning 8-0 in five innings for their eighth run-rule victory and 13th shutout of the season.

After two scoreless innings, Texas Lutheran turned it on to score six runs in the third inning. After back-to-back one out errors scored Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek), a ground out from Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody) would score Linzee Leal (Corpus Christi/Mary Carroll). Kylee Jack (Richwood/Brazoswood) would start the Bulldogs four-run, two out rally with an RBI single to right field, scoring Madison Johnson (Round Rock/Round Rock). Kylee Jack would score on the 'Roos third error of the inning before Reagan Hillis (Cedar Park/Cedar Park) would drive in Kirsten Williams (Pearland/Glenda Dawson) and Isabella Rodriguez (Pearland/Pearland) to bring the game to a 6-0 score.

The Bulldogs would push two more across in the fourth inning courtesy of an RBI fielder's choice from Gonzalez and an RBI single from Bailey Hudgeons (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs).

Senior right-handed pitcher Ashlyn Strother (Seabrook/Clear Falls) continued her impressive season in the circle, tossing her ninth complete game of the season. Strother fanned 10 batters and allowed just one hit on the night to earn her 11th win of the season. It was her Division-III leading sixth shutout and the pitching staff's Division-III-leading 13th shutout in 25 games. The Bulldogs pitching staff and defense have tallied five straight shutouts.

Reagan Hillis paced the Bulldogs with two RBIs in a 2-for-3 showing while Bailey Hudgeons finished 2-for-3 with one RBI. Five different Bulldogs had a hit on the night.
