White Tosses No-Hitter, Strother Dominates as No. 4 TLU Sweeps No. 25 Piedmont

SEGUIN, Texas -- The pitching staff for No. 4 Texas Lutheran continued to dominate, securing their second and third shutouts in the last four games. Senior Amanda White (Lockhart/Lockhart) picked up her third straight winning decision with a complete-game no-hitter vs. No. 25 Piedmont to cap a two-shutout day for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs (10-2) opened the day with a 4-0 win over the 25th-ranked Lions (7-5) before firing back to shutout the Lions 3-0 in game two. Freshman Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody) went a combined 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while freshman Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek) stole four bases to add to her SCAC leading total of 18 stolen bases so far this season.

In the opener, senior Ashlyn Strother (Seabrook/Clear Falls) went the distance and struck out five batters, allowing no runs and just two hits and one walk. Gonzalez paced TLU in the box with a 2-for-3 performance while Reagan Hillis (Cedar Park/Cedar Park) scored two of the Bulldogs four runs. Caelee Clark and Kirsten Williams (Pearland/Glenda Dawson) would drive in a run each in the opening game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

In game two, Amanda White joined teammates Ashlyn Strother and Sydney Ouellette (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland) in having a no-hitter to her name, tossing the 31st no-hitter in TLU softball history - the first since Ashlyn Strother's no-hitter vs. Austin College on March 19, 2022. The performance was one walk and one hit by pitch from a perfect game.  The senior from Lockhart, Texas, has been a force to start 2023, with a 29-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The no-hitter was the first of White's career and first of the season for the Bulldogs.

The scoring began in the third inning courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Bailey Hudgeons (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs). An RBI single from Reagan Hillis in the fourth inning would double the Bulldog lead before Serena Gonzalez would add a sacrifice fly of her own in the fifth to cross the Bulldogs third and final run of the game.

Strother and White blanked Piedmont in both games to run TLU's shutout total to five on the season in 12 games played.

The 4th-ranked Bulldogs return to the field this weekend, March 11-12, at Ed Kruse Stadium in Seguin for the conference-opening series vs. Schreiner. Saturday the teams match up at 12 & 2 PM before a 12 PM start on Sunday. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
