Ashlyn Strother Named SCAC Pitcher of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- Behind three dominant performances in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic, Ashlyn Strother (Seabrook/Clear Falls) was selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

This is Strother's second Pitcher of the Week honor this season as she also collected the honor in Week 2 (for the week of Feb. 13).

Strother earned three victories in three days as the sophomore tossed two complete games against ranked opponents and 18 innings in total to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Strother allowed just six runs and scattered 13 hits across her three appearances. She issued three walks, all against No. 16 Trine, while striking out a staggering 31 batters in the NFCA Leadoff Classic. The right-hander recorded double-digit strikeouts in two of her three outings with 13 strikeouts against No. 15 St. John Fisher and 12 strikeouts against No. 16 Trine. Prior to last week, Strother had just three appearances in which she reached double-digit strikeouts before posting back-to-back such performances last weekend.

Strother currently leads the SCAC in wins (5), strikeouts (45), and strikeouts per seven innings (9.55). She is second in the conference in earned run average (1.70) behind teammate Amanda White (Lockhart/Lockhart) (0.51).

Strother currently ranks eighth in Division-III in strikeouts and twelfth in wins.

Texas Lutheran hosts Case Western Reserve University Thursday, March 10, at Ed Kruse Stadium in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 and 5 PM. Texas Lutheran opens SCAC play this weekend at Schreiner. The series begins Friday in Kerrville.
