Hudgeons Earns SCAC Hitter of the Week Honors

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- Following a tremendous offensive weekend for Texas Lutheran University, junior outfielder Bailey Hudgeons (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) has earned Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Hitter of the Week honors, the league announced Monday evening.

The Dripping Springs, Texas, native hit .632 in six games of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic featuring a field littered with some of the top Division-III softball teams in the country over the weekend, going 12-for-19 at the plate. She slugged 1.316 knocking three home runs and four doubles, recording 25 total bases. She drove in eight runs and scored five times. For her performance, Hudgeons was named to the NFCA Division-III All-Tournament Team announced Sunday night.

Hudgeons is the third Bulldog named SCAC Hitter of the Week following Kylee Jack (Richwood/Brazoswood) in Week 1 and Casey Martin (Pearland/Pearland) in Week 4.

Hudgeons currently holds an eight game hitting streak. Following her big weekend at the plate, Hudgeons currently leads the SCAC in batting average (.615), home runs (4), RBI (16), total bases (34), on-base percentage (.676), and slugging percentage (1.308). Nationally, Hudgeons is first in Division-III in on-base percentage (with a minimum of five games played), second in slugging percentage (with a minimum of five games played), fourth in batting average (with a minimum of five games played), sixth in home runs, ninth in RBI, and sixteenth in total bases.

Texas Lutheran hosts Case Western Reserve University Thursday, March 10, at Ed Kruse Stadium in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 and 5 PM. Texas Lutheran opens SCAC play this weekend at Schreiner. The series begins Friday in Kerrville.
