Casey Martin selected SCAC Hitter of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- Behind a weekend that saw her go a perfect five-for-five at the plate and score three runs, Casey Martin (Pearland/Pearland) was selected Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Martin is the second Bulldog to be named SCAC Hitter of the Week following Kylee Jack (Richwood/Brazoswood) who earned the honor in Week 1.

The Pearland, Texas, native started both contests at second base in Texas Lutheran's Friday doubleheader against Babson College and was a threat in the Bulldogs lineup throughout the day.

Martin held a 1.000 average at the plate over the course of both games. She led the Bulldogs with five hits, three runs scored, three walks, and two steals. The senior also added a team-high 1.000 on-base percentage.

With multi-hit performances in four of Texas Lutheran's six contests, Martin extended her hit streak to six consecutive games.

On the base paths, Martin swiped two bases and now stands 56-for-65 in stolen base attempts in her career. She currently sits ninth in program history - two behind Kayla Bayless (1991-94).

Following her big weekend at the plate, Martin leads the SCAC in batting average (.647) and on-base percentage (.714) while ranking third in steals (3) and fourth in hits (11). Martin's .714 on-base percentage currently ranks her 16th in the country and her .647 batting average ranks her 24th in the country.
