Chassety Raines named SCAC Character & Community Female Student Athlete of the Week

SEGUIN, TX -- Chassety Raines, a senior utility player for the Texas Lutheran softball team, has been selected as the SCAC Character and Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning with January 17th.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

By day, you can find the Spring, Texas, native thriving in the classroom as well as on the diamond as Raines has excelled in both fields over the course of her collegiate career - winning the NCAA Division-III Elite 90 and SCAC Elite 19 Awards for her combination of athletic and academic achievements in 2021 while collecting NFCA All-Region honors for the second time last season as she starred as a pitcher and utility player for the Bulldogs as they made their second consecutive NCAA Division-III Softball Championship appearance.

Off the field, Raines has been an active member of the local Seguin community and abroad. Raines spends time volunteering at the Seguin chapter of Habitat for Humanity where she works on three plots building houses from the ground-up. Raines also alotts her time to the "Patriots, Pups, and Ponies" organization - a non-profit organization that rescues abused and neglected horses and dogs, and connects them with veterans, First Responders and their families for mutual healing - where she helps nurtures these animals and get them accustomed to human interaction before they are sent to their forever home.

When asked what volunteering means to her Raines stated, "It's hard to put into words exactly what volunteering means to me, it is more so a feeling that I get of joy. Joy for using my skills to make a difference, listening to people's stories, and just getting to be a part of something that helps others."

Chassety Raines has been instrumental in the success of the Texas Lutheran softball program over the course of her career as a star at the plate and in the circle. But through her work off of the field, Raines has assured that her star will continue to shine as she is an asset to the Seguin-community and abroad through her community service efforts.
