12 Bulldogs Earn Academic Honors from NFCA

SEGUIN, TX -- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the 2020-21 All-Academic teams and Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete award winners on Tuesday afternoon.

Texas Lutheran's 2021 softball squad finished tied for 42nd out of 127 NCAA Division III teams with a cumulative team GPA of 3.61. The Bulldogs were first amongst teams from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference - one of only two teams from the conference to be recognized with All-Academic status (Schreiner - t59th). The Bulldogs had 12 athletes earn individual scholar-athlete recognition for having a 3.5 grade-point average or better.

Individual All-America Scholar-Athlete Award winners:

McKay Bloxham (Katy/Katy), Lexi Coward (Rockwall/Rockwall), Sydnye Cromwell (Spring/Klein Collins), Bailey Hudgeons (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs), Kelly Jurden (Brenham/Brenham), Casey Martin (Pearland/Pearland), Skylar Ouellette (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland), Sydney Ouellette (Corpus Christi/Gregory-Portland), Haley Padilla (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley), Chassety Raines (Spring/Klein Collins), Shelby Rodriguez (La Vernia/La Vernia), Ashlyn Strother (Seabrook/Clear Falls)

A record 8,831 student-athletes were honored with Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete status across high school, NCAA, NAIA and junior college institutions, including 2,375 Division III student-athletes.

The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association's membership categories. NCAA Division III led the way with 2,375 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2020-21. NCAA Division I and Division II followed with 1,982 and 1,727 honorees. High School weighted and High School unweighted earned 832 and 679 distinctions. NAIA and two-year programs each amassed 643 and 594 recipients, respectively.
