Texas Lutheran Competes in Trinity Last Chance Meet

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's track and field team continued their push to the 2024 NCAA Division-III National Championships as the Bulldogs traveled a small contingent to San Antonio to compete in the Trinity Last Chance Meet in San Antonio on Sunday.

Dalon Harris (Garland/Lakeview Centennial), who as of Sunday night is in line to qualify for the 2024 NCAA Division-III Championships ranking 20th in the nation in the shot put, won the event on Sunday with a mark of 15.33m (50'3.5").

Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan), who is locked in to make the championships by ranking seventh in Division-III in the pole vault, finished fourth overall and second amongst Division-III competitors on Sunday with a mark of 4.43m (14'6.5").

The SCAC champion Texas Lutheran 4x100m relay team comprised of Bryce Powell-Chimene (Dayton/Dayton), Rickey Franks (Rockport/Rockport-Fulton), Justin Freeney (Montgomery/Lake Creek), and Weston Guzman (McAllen/McAllen) further solidified their place amongst the nation's best on Sunday with a second place time of 40.8 seconds, a season-best time. The 40.8 second time ranks 14th in Division-III as of Sunday night with the NCAA taking 16 teams to nationals. The same group would also run the 4x400m relay in 3:15.91 seconds, also a season-best time, to finish second. Powell-Chimene would also add a second place finish in the 400m dash with a season-best time of 47.93 seconds.

Freshman Parker Cabra (Schertz/Randolph) finished second in the high jump with a career-best mark of 2.02m (6'7.5").

Texas Lutheran now awaits the announcement of the NCAA Division-III Outdoor Track and Field National Championship field which will be announced on Friday, May 17, via press release. The championships run from Thursday, May 23 to Saturday, May 25 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Bulldogs have had at least one national qualifier compete in the national championships over the last five seasons.
