No. 24 Men's Track & Field Closes Historic Season at NCAA Championships

ROCHESTER, NY -- The No. 24 Texas Lutheran men's track and field team ended the 2023 season, earning 7.5 total points on the national stage and totaling five All-Americans on Saturday.

In a season that saw Texas Lutheran earn its highest national rankings in program history, being ranked as high as number seven in the nation, Texas Lutheran's five All-American finish is the best national showing for men's track and field since 2018.

Texas Lutheran's Saturday action began with a fourth place finish in the high jump from junior Gerrit Twitero (McQueeney/Seguin). Twitero, the school record holder in the high jump and a 2023 national qualifier in indoor and outdoor track and field, finished with a mark of 2.02m. Twitero capped his historic season by becoming the first All-American in the high jump in TLU's NCAA history and earned the highest national finish in the high jump in school history.

After fighting over the course of two days for their spot in the event final, Texas Lutheran concluded their 2023 season with the 4x100m relay as Weston Guzman (McAllen/McAllen), Wyatt Wilson (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), Bryce Powell-Chimene (Dayton/Dayton) and Elijah Jefferson (San Antonio/Construction Careers Academy) finished sixth with a time of 41.03 seconds. The performance ranks as the second fastest time in the event championship in Texas history and the second time the 4x100 relay team has earned All-America status in TLU men's track and field history (2018).

All five All-Americans earn the honor for the first time in their careers.

Gerrit Twitero - 2.02m (high jump)

Weston Guzman - 41.03 seconds (4x100m relay)

Wyatt Wilson - 41.03 seconds (4x100m relay)
