No. 23 Men's Track and Field Qualifies Seven for NCAA Championships

SEGUIN, Texas -- The No. 23 Texas Lutheran men's track and field team will send seven qualifiers to the 2023 NCAA Division-III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Rochester, New York from May 25-27.

Elijah Jefferson (San Antonio/Construction Careers Academy), who also represented Texas Lutheran at the 2023 NCAA Division-III Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama earlier this year, will represent TLU in the 100m, 200m, and will be one leg of the TLU 4x100m relay team. Jefferson enters the event eighth in the 200m dash and tied for 12th in the 100m dash. Jefferson lowered his 100m time to 10.47 seconds, a new school record, earlier this week at the Redlands Final Qualifier in Redlands, California. Jefferson also owns the 200m dash school record with a time of 21.05 seconds ran earlier this season at TLU's D3 Challenge.

Jefferson will race alongside Weston Guzman (McAllen/McAllen), Wyatt Wilson (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), and Bryce Powell-Chimene (Dayton/Dayton) in the 4x100m relay. The team enters the event ranked  tied for 17th in all of Division-III. The team enters the event thanks to the 2023 SCAC Championship winning and record-breaking time of 40.91 seconds.

Gerrit Twitero (McQueeney/Seguin) the program record holder in both the indoor and outdoor high jump and a National Championship qualifier in the 2023 Indoor season, is set to compete in the high jump. Twitero enters the Championships leading Division-III with a school record mark of 2.10m.

Sophomore Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan), who just missed the cut last season, is set to compete in his first National Championship in the pole vault. Acero enters the event tied for 15th in NCAA Division-III with a school record mark of 4.91m.
