No. 20 Texas Lutheran Competes in Trinity Last Chance Meet

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The 20th-ranked Texas Lutheran men's track and field team continued their push to the 2023 NCAA Division-III National Championships as the Bulldogs traveled a small contingent to San Antonio to compete in the Trinity Last Chance Meet in San Antonio on Sunday.

Gerrit Twitero (McQueeney/Seguin) matched his record setting mark from a week ago on Sunday, clearing 2.10m to out pace two Division-I jumpers from Incarnate Word and win the high jump. Twitero remains atop of the NCAA Division-III performance list less than two weeks ahead of the National Championships held May 25-27 in Rochester, New York.

Elijah Jefferson (San Antonio/Construction Careers Academy) finished first amongst Division-III sprinters in the 100m dash with a time of 10.49 seconds, one-hundredth of a second off his personal record that currently ranks 14th in NCAA Division-III. Jefferson, alongside Wyatt Wilson (New Braunfels/New Braunfels), Weston Guzman (McAllen/McAllen), and Bryce Powell-Chimene (Dayton/Dayton), who rank 12th in NCAA Division-III as a team, would run their second fastest time of the season in the 4x100m relay at 41.10 seconds.

Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan) finished first amongst Division-III competitors in the pole vault with a mark of 4.61m.

In throws, freshman Dalon Harris (Garland/Lakeview Centennial) finished first amongst Division-III throwers with a 15.02m mark in the shot put.

Coach Holland's Comments: "I'm happy with our performances. The men's 4x100 ran their 2nd fastest time this season, and we were hesitant with how Wyatt would do coming back after straining his hamstring in the 100 at Conference. He backed off a little and we still ran a respectable time. Then in the 100 our guys ran well again this week - no complaints there. And Gerrit tied his personal best of 2.10 again this week and made great tries at 2.14. The weather worked out great and we are looking forward to heading to California this week to see if we can get a smidge better."
