TLU Breaks Records, Collects Two Wins at Trinity Invite
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Texas Lutheran track and field concluded the two-day Trinity Invitational in San Antonio on Saturday.
Sophomore Elijah Jefferson (San Antonio/Construction Careers Academy), who waits to see whether he will be named a NCAA Division-III Indoor Track and Field National Championship qualifier after a stellar indoor season, made an electric debut to start his outdoor season. The 2022 SCAC Co-Athlete of the Year won the 200m dash with a time of 21.40 seconds and finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 10.75 seconds - only outdone by a sprinter from Division-II Angelo State. Jefferson's times currently lead Division-III in the 200m and rank fourth in the 100m.
Gerrit Twitero (McQueeney/Seguin), who is expected to compete in the high jump in the 2023 NCAA Division-III Indoor Track and Field National Championships, also made his outdoor debut, finishing third with a new program record mark of 2.00m.
It would also be a record setting day for pole vaulter Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan) - who broke his own outdoor pole vault record with a mark of 4.70m to finish second in the event behind a vaulter from Angelo State. Acero would also win the men's javelin with a mark of 50.50m.
Also in throws, Dalon Harris finished fifth in the men's shot put with a mark of 14.38m. Chase Cook (Austin/McNeil) would finish sixth in the hammer throw, third amongst Division-III competitors, with a mark of 44.62m.
Senior Luis Green (Monterrey, Mexico/Smithson Valley) tallied a third place finish in the 800m dash with a time of 1:56.84. Bryce Powell-Chimene (Dayton/Dayton) finished fourth in the 400m dash with a time of 49.47 seconds. Carlos Cura (Midkiff/Rankin) added a fifth place finish in the 5000m run with a time of 15:40.10.
