McDonough wins High Jump as No. 25 Texas Lutheran Wraps Charles Austin Classic

SAN MARCOS, Texas -- The No. 25 Texas Lutheran men's track and field team wrapped up the Charles Austin Classic on the campus of Texas State University on Saturday.

Caimen McDonough (Canyon Lake/Canyon Lake) won the high jump with a mark of 1.92 meters - beating teammate Gerrit Twitero (McQueeney/Seguin) by a mere hundreths of a meter to take the win. Both Bulldogs now sit in third place in the SCAC with the 1.92-meter mark. Niko Rios (San Antonio/Brennan) finished fifth in the long jump with a 6.78m mark.

Bryce Powell-Chimene (Dayton/Dayton) finished second in the 400-meter dash at 51.25 seconds - Powell-Chimene moves into ninth in the conference ahead of next week's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships.

Elijah Jefferson (San Antonio/Construction Careers Academy) ran the 200-meter dash in 11.14 seconds to finish 13th but, with that time, he would move into third in the SCAC as of this writing.

Scottie Reyes (Dilley/Dilley) would finish fourth, first amongst Division-III competitors, in the discus throw with a mark of 46.41-meters. Chase Cook (Austin/McNeil) threw a season-best 41.45m in the discus to move into third in the conference in the event.

Zachary Herman (Austin/Lake Travis) and Scottie Reyes, who owned the top two spots on the SCAC Leaderboard in the hammer throw entering this weekend, both topped their marks from the Carl Kight Invitational to further cement themselves as the top two in the event entering the conference championship meet next week. Herman finished fifth overall with a mark of 51.23-meters while Reyes would finish sixth with a 49.10 mark.

Coach Holland's Comments: For both the men and women, we treated this meet as a tuneup for the Conference Championships next weekend. We saw a few PRs and are ready for more PRs at conference!
