School and Personal Records Fall as TLU Opens Outdoor Season

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Sophomore Weston Geiger (Shiner/St, Paul) broke the school record in the javelin throw and freshman Ezra Acero (San Antonio/Harlan), after setting the indoor record earlier this year, tied the school record in the outdoor pole vault as Texas Lutheran track and field opened outdoor season at the Trinity Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.

Geiger, a Shiner native, led all Division-III throwers with a throw of 57.04 meters - setting a new school record and collecting a third place finish in the process.

Acero, a San Antonio native, collected a mark of 4.55 meters for a second place finish behind a vaulter from Division-II Angelo State.

Scottie Reyes (Dilley/Dilley) and Zachary Herman (Austin/Lake Travis) performed well in the throws - collecting top ten finishes.

Texas Lutheran turned in impressive performances in the sprints as freshman sprinter Elijah Jefferson (San Antonio/Construction Careers Academy) finished eighth in the 100-meter dash, Ezrael Powell (San Antonio/Marshall) finished tenth in the 200-meter dash while Caimen McDonough (Canyon Lake/Canyon Lake) collected top ten finishes in both the 400 and 110-meter hurdles.

Coach Holland's Comments: "There were a lot of positives in our first outdoor meet. We had many people break their own personal records already, and we saw a school record get broken and one tied. Weston Geiger broke the school record in the javelin with a huge personal best in the event, while Ezra Acero tied the outdoor pole vault record.

Aside from Geiger and Acero, Scottie Reyes and Zach Herman performed well in the throws, Koby Green in the distance events, and Elijah Jefferson, Ezrael Powell and Bryce Powell-Chimene sprinted to fast times.

We don't compete again until our home meet in three weeks, so we are going to put the work in and continue to improve in all of our events. It was a great start, and the excitement is there! Can't wait to see how the next one goes!"
