Men's Tennis Earns Second Consecutive Sweep Over Sul Ross

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran men's tennis earned its second consecutive 9-0 sweep of Sul Ross State Friday afternoon at TLU's Ohlenbusch-Rinn Tennis Center. The win marks the third consecutive sweep over Sul Ross dating back to last season and the 11th straight victory over the Lobos dating back to 2012.

Texas Lutheran swept both doubles and singles competition. The teams of - Cashton Herrera (New Braunfels/New Braunfels)/Austin Hudson (San Marcos/San Marcos) and Tyler Sargent (New Braunfels/New Braunfels)/Brandon Nieto (Sinton/Sinton) won in straight sets. The team of Brody Smith (New Braunfels/Canyon) and Jackson Leslie (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) would power through to win 8-3 for their second win as a team.

Xavier Cristan (Corpus Christi/Flour Bluff) would earn his team leading seventh singles victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win Friday afternoon. Brandon Nieto would earn his first singles win of his collegiate career with a 6-4, 1-6, 10-5 three-set victory while Gavin Leon (Cibolo/Steele) would win his first match of his TLU career - 6-3, 6-4. Eric Moninger (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) would win his third singles match in his last four outings, winning his match 6-2, 6-0 and Aaron Salinas (Kerrville/Tivy) would win his first set 4-0 before a retirement from Sul Ross.

Texas Lutheran will return to SCAC play on Saturday, April 1, as they travel to Kerrville to play the Schreiner Mountaineers at 10 AM.
