Bulldogs Record Shutout over No. 11 Trinity to Remain Unbeaten

SEGUIN, Texas -- In front of a Gustafson Field crowd decked out in pink for the annual Breast Cancer Awareness match, the Texas Lutheran men's soccer team (11-0, 2-0 SCAC) shutout the 11th-ranked Trinity Tigers Sunday evening. The win is the first win over the Tigers since the 2019 SCAC Tournament and the Bulldogs 13th win in a row dating back to last season - one shy of the longest streak in program history without a loss. The Bulldogs stay unblemished at 11-0 while the Tigers fall to 6-1-2.

The shutout marks the eighth of the season for the Bulldogs - tying for the third most in program history, trailing only the 10 shutout seasons in 2003 and 2015.

Jack Manke (Houston/Stratford) netted his fifth goal of the season via a free kick in the 44th-minute as the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The goal would be the inevitable game winner, Manke's fourth of the season - tying for fifth most in a single-season in program history.

In the 81st minute, Preston Huff (Cypress/Cy-Fair) would ice the game with his fifth goal of the season and third in the last four matches via an assist from Manke, bringing the game to its final score of 2-0.

Noel Pena (Houston/Cy-Falls) recorded his seventh shutout of the season with six saves to keep the Tigers off the board. The goalkeeper win was a historic one for Pena as he moved into a tie for fifth place for most career goalkeeper wins in program history (19), moved into second place for most wins in a single-season (11), and is now half a shutout shy of the program record for single-season shutouts held by Jonathan Michael (8, 2014).

Overall, Texas Lutheran was outshot by the Tigers, 14-10, with each team having six shots on goal. Trinity would also hold an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.

After a four-game homestand, the Bulldogs will now venture out on a four-game road trip starting with a trip to Shreveport, Louisiana, for a matchup with the Centenary College Gents on Friday, Oct. 6. The match is scheduled for a 7 PM kick off. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
