Men's Soccer Captures SCAC Opener, 4-0

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team (10-0, 1-0 SCAC) took its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opener 4-0 against Schreiner (4-4-1, 0-1 SCAC) Friday night at Gustafson Field. The Bulldogs blanked the Mountaineers for their seventh shutout of the season - matching their 2022 total.

Preston Huff (Cypress/Cy-Fair) and Diego Sanchez (Humble/Atascocita) managed three points on the night - tallying a goal and an assist each.

The Bulldogs combined for three goals over the course of 15 minutes between the end of the first half and the beginning of the second.

Following a save from the Schreiner goalkeeper, freshman Michael Wells (Klein/Klein) would follow for his first career goal in the 43rd-minute to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead entering halftime.

The Bulldogs wasted little time after the break - finding the back of the net in a mere 34 seconds as Diego Sanchez scored off an assist from Huff.

Huff tallied the Bulldogs third goal via assists from Sanchez and Evan Bremauntz (Grapevine/Colleyville Heritage) in the 58th minute.

Jorge Ugaz (Cibolo/Clemens) would score the final goal of the match with an 86th-minute penalty kick - his first goal of the season.

Noel Pena (Houston/Cy-Falls) and freshman Aiden Page (Schertz/Steele), who made his collegiate debut Friday night, combined for the shutout. Pena saved the Mountaineers only two shots on goal on Friday.

Texas Lutheran has won their last seven matches against the Mountaineers dating back to 2018, outscoring the Mountaineers by a total of 28-3.

Texas Lutheran welcomes rival No. 11 Trinity (6-0-2) to Gustafson Field in what is a highly anticipated match between two undefeated rivals on Sunday, Oct. 1. The match is scheduled for 2 PM and will be broadcast on TLU+. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
