Men's Soccer Makes History with Win Over McMurry

SEGUIN, Texas -- With a 1-0 win over McMurry (1-4-2) on Sunday, Texas Lutheran men's soccer (9-0) is off to the best start in program history.

TLU's ninth-straight win to open the season bested the program's 8-0 start in 2001. With the win, TLU extended its win streak to 11 games dating back to last season - the longest winning streak in program history - surpassing the 10 game winning streak from 2000-01.

The two teams played a very even match. The match went to halftime scoreless with the War Hawks holding an 2-1 advantage in shots with no shots on target for either club.

A 0-0 stalemate lasted between the two squads deep into the second half until Erick Lopez (Humble/Humble) broke the tie with a 78th-minute penalty kick to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. The game-winning penalty kick is the second of the weekend for Lopez as he increases his goal tally to four on the 2023 season - ranking second in the SCAC.

Texas Lutheran's patented defense stood strong the rest of the way, keeping the War Hawks out of the net for their sixth shutout of the season.

The Bulldogs finished with a 4-3 shot advantage.

Texas Lutheran continues their four-game homestand as they open SCAC play on Friday, Sept. 29, with a Friday night matchup with the Schreiner Mountaineers (4-3-1). The match is scheduled for 7:30 PM and will be broadcast on TLU+. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
