Bulldogs Shutout Concordia, 1-0; Reach 4-0 Mark for First Time Since 2013

ROUND ROCK, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team continued their hot streak as they won their fourth straight match to open the season with a 1-0 victory over the Concordia Tornados. With the win, the Bulldogs reach the 4-0 mark for the first time since 2013.

Jack Manke (Houston/Stratford), the SCAC Defensive Player of the Week last week, netted the game-winning goal in the 66th minute to lift the Bulldogs to the win. Noel Pena (Houston/Cy-Falls) made four saves in-goal to net his third clean sheet in four games in the 2023 season.

The two teams played a very even match. Concordia got the opening look of the match in the eighth minute resulting in Pena's first save of the night.

Pena turned away three on-target shots in the opening 45 minutes, while the Bulldogs forced the opposing keeper to make four saves of their own.

The match went to halftime scoreless with TLU holding an 8-3 advantage in shots.

The shots slowed in the second half before Jack Manke broke the 0-0 tie with a penalty kick in the 66th minute.

Texas Lutheran's patented defense stood strong the rest of the way, keeping the Tornados out of the net for their third shutout of the season.

The Bulldogs finished with a 9-8 shot advantage.

Texas Lutheran begins the back end of their season opening seven game road trip with a two-game weekend in Richardson, Texas, starting with a matchup with the UT-Dallas Comets on Friday, September 15 at 7 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
