Lopez's Three-Point Day Propels Men's Soccer to 2-1 Win Over Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, CA -- A three-point first half from Erick Lopez (Humble/Humble) helped lift the Texas Lutheran men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Cal Lutheran Sunday afternoon at William Rolland Stadium. The Bulldogs will return to Texas with an unblemished 2-0 record after sweeping their opening weekend California trip.

In the 32nd minute, Lopez scored on a penalty kick to give TLU a 1-0 lead that they would carry into halftime.

Almost 15 minutes into the second half, Lopez would slot a pass to Preston Huff (Cypress/Cy-Fair) for a 58th-minute goal to give Texas Lutheran a 2-0 advantage.

Noel Pena (Houston/Cy-Falls) made his second save of the match in the 77th minute to keep the Kingsmen off the board before they finally ended the Bulldogs shutout attempt in the 84th minute on a penalty kick of their own. With the win in-goal, Pena earned his 10th career goalkeeper win.

The Bulldogs will return to the Lone Star State to continue their season opening seven-game road trip as they take on the 2022 American Southwest Conference Champions, the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders on Friday, Sept. 8, at 7:30 PM in Belton. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
