TLU Men's Soccer Releases 2022 Schedule

SEGUIN, Texas -- Head Coach Eddie Salazer and the Texas Lutheran men's soccer team announced the 2022 regular season schedule on Monday.

The Bulldogs play a total of 18 games - including exhibitions - with eight of them at Arthur Gustafson Soccer Field. TLU is 17-8-2 at home since 2019 and with the first home match of the season taking place on Sept. 9 against Concordia (TX).

Texas Lutheran, who missed the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Tournament for the first time since joining the conference in 2013, opens the season with an exhibition match vs. Our Lady of the Lake on Monday Aug. 22nd. The Bulldogs final preseason match is an Alumni Game at Gustafson Field on Saturday, Aug. 27th.

Texas Lutheran heads to Salem, Virginia, - the site of the 2022 NCAA Division-III Men's Soccer Championships - to open the season against Ithaca College and Roanoke College on Sept. 3rd and Sept. 5th. Both matches will be first-time matchups for Texas Lutheran.

Texas Lutheran will host Concordia (TX) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (Sept. 12) for the first home weekend of the regular season.

Texas Lutheran's first true road contests of the season are in Abilene, Texas, as the Bulldogs play McMurry (Sept. 18) and Hardin-Simmons (Sept. 19). Four days later, the Bulldogs return home and host Austin College on Friday, Sept. 23rd before getting back on the road to face University of St. Thomas (Sept. 25). TLU will travel to rival Trinity on Sept. 30th for the first SCAC contest of the season.

From Sunday, Oct. 2nd to Sunday Oct. 16th, the Bulldogs play three of four games at home starting with a road match against Schreiner (Oct. 2). The Bulldogs then return home for three-straight home matches against Centenary (Oct. 7), St. Thomas (Oct. 9), and Colorado College (Oct. 16) before traveling to Southwestern on Oct. 22nd.

The Bulldogs close out the regular season at University of Dallas (Oct. 28) and Austin College (Oct. 30).

Texas Lutheran finished the 2021 campaign with an 8-6-1 overall record and a 4-4 SCAC mark.

Five All-SCAC Players return to the squad including four-time SCAC Offensive Player of the Year, fifth-year senior forward Luis Green (Monterrey, Mexico/Smithson Valley), All-SCAC Second Team defenders junior Jack Manke (Houston/Stratford) and sophomore Diego Roman (Houston/Lamar), senior defender Nestor Ayala (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Wagner), an All-SCAC Honorable Mention selection, and 2021 All-SCAC Freshman Team member, sophomore midfielder Louis Hart (Missouri City/Ridge Point). Green has been an offensive force for the Bulldogs throughout his career averaging a goal per game through 62 games as he enters his final year of collegiate play as TLU Men's Soccer's All-Time Points leader and tied for the TLU Men's Soccer All-Time Goals Scored record. Nestor Ayala scored three goals last season while Louis Hart scored two goals and added an assist.
